Ivan "Vanya" Demidov
Ivan Demidov, the highly touted 19-year-old Russian forward selected fifth overall by the Montreal
Canadiens in 2024, has quickly established himself as one of the NHL's brightest rookies during the
2025-26 season. Through his first 26 games, he leads all first-year players with 20 points (6 goals, 14
assists), dazzling fans with elite puck skills, vision, and a lightning-quick release despite often receiving
third-line minutes. Recently, head coach Martin St. Louis has begun trusting him with significantly
more ice time, culminating in a career-high 19:29 against Winnipeg on December 3, 2025, where
Demidov responded with a brilliant assist and strong two-way play. With his confidence and production
soaring, the young winger is rapidly becoming a cornerstone of Montreal's exciting young core and a
legitimate contender for the Calder trophy.
